How Heat Pumps Work:

Think of a heat pump as a refrigerator running in reverse. While a refrigerator removes heat from inside the fridge and releases it outside, a heat pump pulls heat from the outside air and moves it into your water tank. Here’s a step-by-step breakdown:

  1. Air Intake:A fan draws in outside air, which contains heat energy.
  2. Evaporator:This air passes over the evaporator, where a special liquid refrigerant inside absorbs the heat and turns into a gas.
  3. Compressor:The gas is then compressed by the compressor, which increases its temperature.
  4. Condenser:The hot gas moves through the condenser coil, where it heats the water inside your tank.
  5. Cycle Repeats:After heating the water, the refrigerant cools down and turns back into a liquid. It then returns to the evaporator to start the process again.

Heat pumps are incredibly efficient, even in cold temperatures as low as -7°C. For example, the Enviroheat system can turn 1kW of electricity into over 4kW of heat!

Here's a step-by-step breakdown:

Cold water enters the heat pump through the inlet valve located at the lower side of the tank.

The heat pump extracts heat from the surrounding air through a fan system (shown on the right). This heat intake is critical for warming the water inside the tank.

Inside the system, a refrigerant absorbs the heat from the air. This refrigerant is compressed, which increases its temperature.

The hot refrigerant passes through a coil (heat exchanger) inside the tank, which transfers the heat to the water stored in the tank. The water heats up as the refrigerant cools down and cycles back to absorb more heat.

As the water in the tank heats up, it rises and can be extracted through the hot water outlet at the top of the tank, ready to be used for household needs.

The system repeats this process, continually extracting heat from the ambient air, transferring it to the water through the refrigerant, and maintaining a steady supply of hot water.
